With travel abroad mostly if not completely closed down, all of us have to maintain social distance, take necessary precautions when commuting to and from work and be generally aware of the people around you. But no matter the circumstance, work continues for us here at Event21.
With this post, I wanted to stress the significance of ribbon-cutting ceremonies in Japan.
As with every ribbon cutting ceremony anywhere in the world, the significance of this event is undeniably grand. It takes a lot of planning, preparation and at the end of the day, a precise execution. Every ribbon-cutting ceremony typically signifies a grand opening or the beginning of construction of an object, however, not many people know that the origins of this ceremony are in fact, quite romantic.
Ribbon cutting ceremonies originated as part of traditional wedding celebrations in countries across Europe. In Italy, for example, the bride’s father (or the bride herself) often cut a ribbon that was placed over the door of the family home, symbolizing the leaving of her family unit and finding freedom in her new family. In France, brides cut ribbons while being escorted to the church by their grooms, as a symbol of their commitment to overcoming obstacles together. However, this started to change into a grand opening ceremony in XIX century.
As it stands now, ribbon-cutting ceremonies mark a new beginning or a new venture, therefore many companies invite local press to the event and the cameras always do the ceremony due justice.
Any old scissors won’t do here, therefore scissors are usually gold plated or at least painted gold, and white gloves are a must. Tents, chairs, podiums, audio equipment, golden poles are the inseparable attributes of this kind of ceremony, and here at Event21 we have it all available for rent.
